Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | by: Carter Moles

Eagles run past Running Eagles for fourth straight win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner led from the jump and pulled away with an 11-0 run over 3:02 as time started winding down in the first half to roll to a 89-71 victory over (RV) Life Thursday night in Tine Davis Gymnasium led by Tanner Vogel's 23 point, 11 rebound double-double.

Life entered the night as the top seed in the East and tied with the Eagles in SSAC record and traded punches while keeping it close against the hosts, but never tying or taking the lead. With 6:40 to play, Maurice Wright hit a jumper for the Running Eagles to cut the Faulkner lead to 27-20. Jordyn Turner-Durley answered with a jumper on the ensuing possession before a Levi White dunk in transition made it a double-figure lead. White hit two layups after and Kamal Green II connected on a three to make it 38-20 and force Life to try to chip away.

With 11:10 to go in the game, Life started an 11-3 run over the next 4:40 to cut the lead down to five. Turner-Durley hit three shots over the next two possessions to steady it before Green's layup pushed it back to double figures. On the next possession, Francois-Dony Baba flushed a transition dunk to take a 74-62 lead with just under four minutes to go. KJ Rogers knocked down a three with two minutes to go to put the final dagger in the game.

Vogel's double-double is the third one in the last five games for the Aussie big man, all against teams atop the standings and accomplished it in just 23 minutes on the floor.

Rogers saw a return to his early season tear with 17 points, to accompany seven assists and four steals which both led the floor. Turner-Durley ended with six assists, seven rebounds and nine points. White and Green each scored in double figures with 13 and 10, respectively.

The Eagles dominated the glass with a 40-28 advantage, marking the ninth straight game and 16th time winning the missed shot recovery battle. It is also the third straight game with a double-figures advantage in rebounding.

Faulkner turned the ball over just eight times in the evening and scored 200 points to just 16 turnovers in the last two games.

The Eagles have a quick turnaround and welcome Dalton State Friday night at 7:15. The game will also highlight and honor the 2001 NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship team with the Hall of Fame induction for the squad 25 years after their triumph in Tulsa.
