THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Head Coach
Scott Sanderson picked up win No. 250 at Faulkner Saturday as the Eagles dominated the glass against Thomas in a 96-81 victory at TU Gymnasium. The Eagles outrebounded the Night Hawks 45-27 for its sixth straight game with a double-digit rebounding margin in their favor.
Thomas jumped out to an 11 point lead over the first eight minutes after a quick 7-0 run in a minute. However, the Eagles responded with lockdown defense, allowing just one made free throw over the next seven minutes to take a six point lead capped off by a
Gabriel Rivera three with just under five minutes to go in the half. The Eagles closed the half on an 11-4 run to make a 10 point lead with a 29-8 run over the last 12 minutes.
Faulkner cruised in the second half to pick up another important SSAC win. The 96 points continued a torrid run of scoring, averaging 94.2 points per game over the last six games. While the scoring has the fruit, the catalyst has been rebounding. In the first half alone, Faulkner grabbed 18 more rebounds than the Night Hawks' 11 in the opening 20.
Tanner Vogel continued to lead the charge on the glass with 16 rebounds. It was his fifth game in the last six and fourth straight with double figure rebounds. He completed his double-double with 13 points for his fourth such game in the last six.
Jordyn Turner-Durley led the scoring with 18 as six different Eagles broke double-figures for hte second straight game.
Kamal Green II had 14, Rivera and
Francois-Dony Baba 12 and
Gideon Harris 11.
The Eagles sit just a half game behind William Carey and a half game ahead of Loyola in the West standings. Faulkner heads to Mount Vernon, Ga. to take on Brewton-Parker Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
