MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Lady Eagles picked up a massive three SSAC points in the Battle of I-85 against Point Thursday night with a 2-0 victory.
The defense set the table with the backline of
A'Shya Brown,
Emily Hardman,
Tora Andersson and
Brooke Parker leading the way in holding Point in check, limiting the chances to allow just six shots on target with most not testing
Taylor Waters too much as she made six stops for the clean sheet.
Faulkner's first shot of the game scored the first goal as
Katelyn Sutton popped a perfect pass to
Cassie Jackson in the 30th minute. The senior forward thundered home a strike over the keeper's head to make it 1-0 for her 30th career goal.
The Lady Eagles kept Point in check, allowing just two shots over the next 30 minutes until a handball set up a long range free kick. Hardman played a ball from midfield and found Jackson in the box who slid home the second goal of the evening and her 31st to move into sole possession of third most goals in program history.
Faulkner allowed just three more shots on target in the last half hour with only one forcing Waters off her feet as she made a diving save to the low corner to preserve the clean sheet.
The win gives the Lady Eagles 10 points on the SSAC with a max of 19. Faulkner is tied for eighth currently with Mobile who has a match in hand and three points behind Point. The Rams and Skyhawks meet in Mobile on Saturday.
Faulkner welcomes Andrew College for the first time in program history on Saturday for senior day. Kickoff is set for 5:30 with senior day beforehand.
