Faulkner softball trounces Tornadoes in midweek sweep

PELL CITY, Ala. – Faulkner handled its business in all phases of the game Wednesday, sweeping a road doubleheader against Talladega in dominant fashion.

FAULKNER 18, TALLADEGA 1

The Lady Eagles put up five runs in the first inning of game one and scarcely checked up on the way to an 18-1 victory. Chloe Davidson singled and stole a pair of bases before scoring on an Addyson Jarman single to third. Madelyn Becker doubled to left-center before Sarah Williams singled to right to drive in both runners for the 3-0 lead. After a Kelbi Johnson walk, Mandi Hart singled to right to drive in two runs for the 5-0 advantage.

Faulkner got the bats going again in the second as Anna Catherine Segrest started the frame with a single to short. She proceeded to steal two bases before waltzing home on a Becker double to right-center. After Becker scored on a throwing error, Williams launched a solo homer to put the Lady Eagles up 8-0.

Bailea Boone started the fireworks in the third with a bunt single and a steal of second. Davdison then singled to left to put runners on the corners. Segrest stroked a hit to right-center to plate both for the 10-0 lead. Becker singled and gave way to pinch runner Avery Goff, who promptly stole second. Abby Terrell drove Goff in with a single to left. Hart then doubled in Terrell to move it to 14-0.

Abrianna Davis got in on the fun in the fourth with a leadoff single to center and a steal of second. Goff singled her in for the 15-0 margin. After a Boone walk started the fifth, Davidson doubled her in. Davis singled to center to plate Davidson for the 17-0 lead. Segrest scored on a passed ball for the final Lady Eagle run of the contest.

Faulkner got three RBIs apiece from Jarman and Williams while Segrest and Hart each notched two. Davidson and Segrest each scored three runs in the game. Davidson finished with four hits while Becker and Hart had three each.

Reece Patterson (1-0) proved effective in the circle, working a complete game with three hits allowed and nine strikeouts.

FAULKNER 10, TALLADEGA 0

Game two got off to a much less chaotic start. Davidson got things going again for Faulkner with a single in the first before stealing second. She later scored on a Jarman sacrifice fly to left for the 1-0 advantage.

After Lana Atkins struck out the side in the bottom of the first, the Lady Eagles added to the lead. Williams singled and later scored on a Campbell Hecklnski base hit to center.
Davidson set the table again in the third with a leadoff single to left. She moved to third on a Jarman single before getting thrown out at home on a double steal attempt. Becker singled home Jarman later in the inning for the 3-0 lead.

Davis singled to lead off the fourth and stole second ahead of a double from Goff to stretch the lead to 4-0. Faulkner made it five straight innings of scoring a single run when Becker got a base knock and scored on a Williams hit in the fifth.

The Lady Eagles put up a crooked number to put the game away in the sixth, plating five runs in the frame. Goff took a hit-by-pitch, stole second and moved to third on a Davidson hit. She later scored on a throwing error. Segrest singled in Davidson to move it to 7-0 before Jarman blasted a two-run shot to left. Davis later drove in Williams with a single to set the final margin.
Davidson and Becker notched three hits apiece for Faulkner while Jarman drove in three runs.

Atkins (1-0) proved nothing short of dominant in the circle, striking out 10 batters over six shutout innings in a complete game effort. She issued one walk and allowed only three hits.
