KJ Rogers and
Tanner Vogel were officially recognized as first-team all-Southern States Athletic Conference players Wednesday night at the SSAC Basketball Awards Banquet while
Kamal Green II earned all-Freshman honors.
Rogers, a second team honor last season, leading the Eagles in points (395) assists (78), steals (52) over 25 games. Rogers opened the season on fire with three straight 30-plus point performances with 12 steals, 11 assists and 20 boards scattered through the 3-0 start. The native of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands swept the first week of the SSAC Player of the Week awards before repeating his offensive honor the following week.
Vogel, a native of Busselton, Australia, made an instant impact in his first year with the Eagles, placing in the 10-man first-team all-SSAC. Vogel ranks among the top 20 rebounders in the nation, averaging 9.1 per game and is 12th in offensive rebounding averaging 3.6 per contest. Vogel also carries 11 double-doubles into the postseason with just double-digit boards in 10 of the 13 contests since the Christmas break.
Green had 12 games in double-figures breaking 20 twice including his season-high 23 in a close road win at Brewton-Parker and averaged 8.9 per game through the regular season. Green is one of just five Eagles to play in every game this season.
Jerome Thomas was named the team's Champion of Character and joined the All-Academic team with
Ian Johnigan,
Francois-Dony Baba and Vogel. In order to be all-academic, the student-athlete had to achieve a 3.25 GPA and have completed a year of college.
