Lady Eagle softball rebounds with sweep of Toppers

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner softball got back off the deck Saturday with a pair of major SSAC victories over Blue Mountain Christian.

FAULKNER 2, BLUE MOUNTAIN CHRISTIAN 0

A bunt and a definitive swing proved enough offense in game one as the Lady Eagles got Reece Patterson her fifth win of the season. After stranding runners in each of the first three innings, Faulkner manufactured a run in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. Sarah Williams coaxed a leadoff walk before giving way to pinch runner Campbell Hecklinski. After Madelyn Becker dropped down a sacrifice bunt, a throwing error allowed Hecklinski to go all the way around and stake the Lady Eagles to a 1-0 lead.

That advantage held until the fifth when Addyson Jarman hit a solo homer to left center to stretch the lead to 2-0. That was more than enough for Patterson as she struck out five over seven innings while allowing just three hits and issuing no walks.

Patterson finished the complete game with five strikeouts and three hits allowed.

FAULKNER 12, BLUE MOUNTAIN CHRISTIAN 2

Game two of the doubleheader saw Faulkner put up crooked numbers in three of their four innings at the plate to romp to a 12-2 victory. Abbie Davis scored an unearned run on a fielding error in the second to put the Lady Eagles up 1-0. Chloe Davidson later doubled down the left field line to drive in Bailea Boone and Avery Goff for the 3-0 lead. Anna Catherine Segrest doubled down the right field line to plate Davidson for the 4-0 advantage.

After BMCU (17-3-1, 0-2 SSAC) put a run on the board in the third, Faulkner responded with a three-spot in the third half. Madelyn Becker scored on a fielding error before to make it 5-1 before Boone's RBI grounder plated Abrianna Davis. Segrest singled home Goff to push the lead to 7-1.

The Toppers got a run back in the fourth before the Lady Eagles scored five in the bottom half to put the game out of reach. Boone singled in Abrianna Davis ahead of a two-run single from Davidson. Segrest then singled in two more to cap the scoring. Segrest finished the game with four RBIs while Davidson and Boone had three apiece.

Lana Atkins (2-0) allowed four hits and issued two walks while striking out two and allowing one earned run.

Faulkner (17-6, 4-2 SSAC) returns to action Saturday, March 21 when it hosts United States Sports Academy at 1 and 3 p.m.
