ATLANTA – Ruthie Smith has earned a spot on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NAIA Coaches' All-America Honorable Mention team. The award caps off another outstanding season by the junior forward from Rogersville, Ala.
The postseason honor follows up her second straight First Team All-SSAC season and third straight all-conference year. Smith helped the Lady Eagles to their first national tournament berth in three years. She led the team in most statistical categories, racking up 433 points in 26.9 minutes per game for an average of 14.4 points per game while shooting 42.7% from the field, 33.1% from three and 46.8% from the free throw line. She pulled down 245 rebounds, 159 on defense and 86 on offense. She added 41 assists, 41 steals and 31 blocks.
She took home two SSAC Defensive Player honors and one Offensive Player of the Week honor this season to bring her career total to six and registered a career game with 31 points at Brewton-Parker Christian, while scoring her 1000th career point on the road at William Carey.
Among opposing players on Faulkner's schedule, Southeastern's Grace Field and UT Southern's Ashley Dickey also earned Honorable Mention honors. Bethel's Mikee Buchanan and Micah Hart and SSAC Player of the Year Alissa O'Dell of Loyola placed on the primary All-America team.
