Lady Eagles Sweep in First Home Game

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - In the first home game for the Lady Eagles for 2026, the team swept the Brenau University Golden Tigers in the double header, winning the first game 3-0 and the second game ending in a run rule with a score of 13-3 on a Wednesday afternoon at Wynn Field.

In the first game of the double header, both the Lady Eagles and Golden Tigers had not scored by the time the fifth inning occurred. Both teams kept leaving runners on base and in scoring position. That all changed in the fifth inning though, when Anna Catherine Segrest hit a double to left center to score Bailea Boone. From there, that is when the bats started to wake up for the Lady Eagles, especially when, in the same inning, Addyson Jarman hit another double to score Segrest.

In the sixth inning, the Golden Tigers answered by managing to get some runners on base. Whitney Hulsey and Breanne Brookshire of the Golden Tigers were both in scoring position when Riley Smith hit a double. However, the right fielder for the Lady Eagles, Abby Terrell, picked up the ball and threw a line shot to home to get Whitney Hulsey out at home, thus keeping the score at 2-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. And it was in the bottom of the sixth where a squeeze play by Campbell Hecklinski scored Khloe Jones, thus making the score 3-0.

The seventh inning was tense as the Golden Tigers answered once more and started getting hits, getting runners in scoring position once more. However, a line out to Kelbi Johnson, the first baseman who made an acrobatic grab, ended the game with the Lady Eagles winning their first home game 3-0.

With the first win under their belt, the momentum for the Lady Eagles continued to the second game. Jarman got the first run in for the Lady Eagles for the second game with a triple that hit the left field fence, scoring Chloe Davidson. And Madelyn Becker followed it up with a single to center field to score Jarman so when the first inning ended, the score was 2-0.

However, it was the second inning where the Lady Eagles truly shined. Despite Peyton Hawkins having scored on a throwing error by right field, the Lady Eagles made up for it tremendously. Avery Goff led off for the Lady Eagles in the bottom of the second with a homerun, and the bats kept rolling from there. By the end of the second inning, the Lady Eagles had scored eight runs in one inning, leaving the score at 10-1 going into the top of the third inning.

Some of the players for the Lady Eagles even got to bat for the first time in the fourth inning. Taylor Adams, a freshman, pinch hit for Avery Goff. And for her first collegiate hit, she singled to right center. AnnaLee Crimm hit a double to left field for her first collegiate hit to put her and Adams in scoring position. Lana Atkins, a pitcher, went up to bat in the bottom of the fourth inning. And despite it being her first time batting for her Faulkner career, she hit a double to center field and scored Crimm and Adams, thus having the score at 13-1 going into the fifth inning.

And even with the Golden Tigers scoring two more runs in the fifth inning, it would not be enough to match with the Lady Eagles for this game. With a ground out to Davidson, the second baseman, the Lady Eagles run-ruled the Golden Tigers with a score of 13-3. Therefore, the Lady Eagles swept the Golden Tigers for the first home games of the 2026 season.

Faulkner heads to Gulf Shores for the Gulf Coast Invitational this weekend. They open on Friday morning at 11:15 against Texas A&M-Victoria.
