Lady Eagles sweep Barons

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - At Wynn Field on a late Thursday afternoon, the Faulkner Lady Eagles faced off against the Brewton-Parker Barons, which ended in a sweep for the Lady Eagles. The first game, the Lady Eagles started off strong, winning 4-3. The second game was tense, however, but the Lady Eagles managed to pull off a win in the seventh inning, winning 2-1.

The Lady Eagles started off strong in the first game with Anna Catherine Segrest and Addyson Jarman getting hits and getting on base. But it was Abby Terrell with a single to the left side that scored both Segrest and Jarman, leaving the score 2-0 in the first inning. However, the Lady Eagles lost the lead due to Alyssa Usrey scoring on a wild pitch in the second inning, and a homerun from Morgan Willingham to score herself and Destiny Lucas in the third inning.

Despite this, the Lady Eagles answered in the third inning. Kelbi Johnson hit a double to left that ended with her scoring Sarah Williams and Madelyn Becker, bringing the score to 4-3. The Lady Eagles kept the lead, getting three outs back to back in the seventh inning to end the game. Addison Moseley started the game to earn the win, and Reece Patterson came in to pitch in the fourth inning, with Patterson having a four-inning save, the first save of her Faulkner career.

Faulkner 2, Brewton-Parker 1

This game was a tough one for the Lady Eagles. Both teams managed to keep the other team from scoring up until the fifth inning, with the Barons managing to score an unearned run. The Lady Eagles' bats were hot, with the hitters putting balls in play. The defense was good though, with Abbie Davis having an amazing throw from right field to home plate to stop a runner from scoring. Lana Atkins earned the complete game win with four strikeouts and no earned runs on six hits.

It was not until the seventh inning that the Lady Eagles' bats managed to turn things around. Chloe Davidson hit a double down the left field line, which scored Johnson to tie the game, and was pinch run for by Abrianna Davis. Segrest brought her home to score with a single down the left field line, ending in a win for the Lady Eagles 2-1 in the seventh inning.

Segrest was interviewed after the game, and this is what she said on what her father Mark Segrest told her before she got into the box and hit the single that won the second game:

"He just told me to have fun and just do what I do best. She threw me a first-pitch curveball and I took a strike, and I knew she was probably going to come back to that same spot because I kind of froze. So, I just made sure that I took the ball that way and hit it down the right-side line.

"I feel good! I feel so blessed and just so happy that I have such great teammates that pick me up even when some days don't go well. So, I'm just so blessed. I couldn't do it alone, I mean, my teammates are the reason that I was able to hit a run in because they were on base."

The Lady Eagles will be playing Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College this Friday at Wynn Field, their home field, at 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm for their last series of the regular season. Faulkner is currently in third place in conference and has a chance to get to second place if the Lady Eagles sweep this Friday's games and if the current second-place holder, Mobile, falls to William Carey, the regular season champion.
