Defense stifles Shorter in scoreless draw

ROME, Ga. - The defense held strong but a goal went wanting Thursday night as the Lady Eagles picked up a 0-0 draw on the road at Shorter in Jon Ireland's return to the Faulkner sidelines.

Faulkner constantly kept the Hawks uncomfortable in possession and created 22 shots but put just eight on target.

One of the biggest chances of the night came when Cassie Jackson was played through on goal and lobbed the keeper but the shot hit the crossbar in the 21st minute.

The defense held the hosts without a shot until the 32nd minute when a big chance was snuffed out by Emily Hardman and Mireia Ferrero Rosino.

Faulkner went to halftime with just six shots with just one on frame before turning on the heat in the second 45.

Gabriela Garzon Valero kept the Shorter goalkeepers busy with four shots on target in the second half, none bigger than one in the 82nd minute that appeared destined for the bottom corner but was saved with a highlight reel stop by Anna Kate Welch who subbed on just four minutes prior.

Faulkner allowed just six shots with Ferrero Rosino stopping all three on frame.

The Lady Eagles remain unbeaten against Shorter in the last eight matches.

Faulkner comes home to take on crosstown foe Huntingdon Saturday at 7 p.m.
