MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A late display of perfect one-touch passing led to the match winning goal on a blistering day at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium as the Eagles came back for a 2-1 win against New College of Florida Saturday.
In the 82nd minute,
Gunner Blanchard played to
Juan Rojas who passed to
Matheus Magnusson who backheeled to Rojas and found
Bernardo Juca who sent the ball down the right wing for Rojas. The Paraguayan crossed and found the sprinting
Pedro Trindade who redirected the ball into the net.
The goal paid off a full team effort and an offensive onslaught as the team shot 21 times with 13 on target to just five shots and two on target for the Mighty Banyans.
Despite Faulkner dominating the first 25 minutes, forcing Banyan goalkeeper Cooper Kambak into five saves, a counter attack led to a three-on-one chance for NCF as Ducamel Jeannestin tapped in passes from Micah Nelson and Jose Gutierrez to put the hosts behind in the 27th.
Faulkner kept battering the goal trying to find the equalizer and right before half it came through. Pepé Riofrio played Juca on the left side of the box who crossed to
Julio Cesar in the 44th minute. Cesar headed home his 17th goal as an Eagle to tie for fourth all-time. Riofrio picked up his 11th assist, also tying him for fourth all-time in assists.
The Eagles start a long, crucial road trip with a neutral site contest against SCAD Thursday evening at Mobile. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
