MOBILE, Ala. - Faulkner scrapped a 3-2 win over SCAD Thursday afternoon at The Jungle taking a 2-0 lead before breaking a deadlock just five minutes after the Bees swarmed back to tie to start the season with a 2-0 record.
Julio Cesar shot on a charging keeper in the 20th minute where the save floated to
Juan Rojas who scored his second goal at Mobile's home field in as many matches to take the lead. It was the senior's sixth goal in his career. Rojas has a goal contribution in each of the two matches so far. Cesar's assist on the shot was his 41st point, moving him to alone in fourth for points in a career also cashing his second match with a goal contribution.
The Eagles held SCAD without a shot on target for the entirety of the first half to hold the 1-0 lead.
In the 54th minute,
Konsti Witte held possession in the box and passed to
Asaph Silveira who whipped the ball to the opposite post where
Leo Freire scored his 18th career goal, moving him into a tie for second most all-time.
However, the match featured a deja vu from last season's home game against the Bees as the Sun Conference team scored a couple of quick goals to change the match. A minute after the Eagles took the 2-0 lead on Freire's goal, SCAD scored off a corner to make it 2-1. Eight minutes later, a good through ball was finished for a tie ball game in the 63rd.
Faulkner earned a corner kick in the 68th minute and Silveira delivered it to the middle of the box where
Bernardo Juca struck it home off the dome for what proved to be the match-winning goal.
Andre Ferreira saved two shots in the last 15 minutes to seal the contest as the Eagles peppered four shots on target looking for insurance.
The Eagles are 2-0 for the first time since 2022 and will take on Louisiana Christian (0-2) Saturday evening. The Wildcats look to respond from a 7-1 loss to host Mobile Thursday. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
