WEST POINT, Ga. - Faulkner passed its biggest test of the season thus far with a 2-2 draw against Columbia International Saturday morning at River Bowl Stadium.
The Rams took the lead early with a 13th minute finish from Sydney Thoman but the Lady Eagles did what they've shown the mettle for all year and shut down the Ram attack after. CIU shot just twice the rest of the half as Faulkner continued to press but could not find an answer on the other end in the frame.Â
The pressure paid off in the 54th minute when an indirect free kick was awarded to the Lady Eagles on the six-yard box.
Brooke Parker rolled it to
Cassie Jackson who fired in the tying goal with all 11 defenders in the goal.Â
Just five minutes later, Parker laces a pass to Jackson who takes a great touch with her left foot before firing a strike into the top corner with her right to take the lead and move into fifth place for most goals scored in a career at Faulkner with 25. Parker's two assists set her season total at two goals and two assists, tying last season's for the now sophomore.Â
Faulkner seemed to have the win under wraps with two minutes to go and a defense that had allowed just four shots since the 13th minute, but a long range strike from Zeila Griffith found the top corner to end with a draw.Â
The Lady Eagles placed all seven shots taken on target.Â
Faulkner improves to 1-1-2 on the year and welcomes Ave Maria to Billy D. Hilyer Stadium for the final nonconference matchup Sept. 5 at 5:30 p.m.
