MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner weathered well against a perennial national tournament side in Xavier (La.) in the first SSAC meeting between the two sides, but three mistakes led to three goals in a 3-0 loss.
In the ninth minute, the Gold Nuggets (3-2-1, 2-0 SSAC) crossed into the box and a misfired clearance found the back of the Lady Eagle net to make it 1-0.
The two defenses stood strong allowing just nine total shots between the two sides with only four on frame for nearly the next 50 minutes until a penalty was conceded by Faulkner and converted by Julia Gurgel in the 60th minute to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Faulkner battled for a comeback but could not find an answer before Xavier put the match out of reach in the 89th minute with a goal from Alina Paiz to seal the 3-0 scoreline.
The Lady Eagles (1-5-2, 0-3 SSAC) bring No. 11 William Carey to town Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
