MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (2-6-2, 1-4 SSAC) picked up their first SSAC win of the season defeating Brewton-Parker (2-8, 0-5 SSAC) with a clean sheet and a pair of braces in a 4-0 victory Thursday night at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
After dominating the first 30 minutes, Faulkner still had nothing to show on the board despite 10 shots and seven corners while avoiding a couple of close calls by the Lady Barons, the breakthrough finally came in the 34th minute.
Cassie Jackson moved into a tie for fourth all-time in goals with a 34th minute tally when
Katelyn Sutton played her through and the senior took a touch around the keeper before rolling the ball into the open net to cash in the game winning goal. It was Sutton's first assist at Faulkner and Jackson's 26th goal in her career.
Faulkner kept the pressure up offensively and survived a crossbar ringer in the 38th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.Â
The difference in the night came around the hour mark when Brewton-Parker pushed numbers forward to chase the goal.
Tora Andersson floated a longball over the top and past the defensive line where
DeAireal Williams caught the BPCU keeper in no-man's-land before finishing the one-on-one chance to make it 2-0 for her first goal and Andersson's first assist of the year.
The Lady Eagles flurried more chances with five more shots over the next six minutes before
Sydney Steele's shot was parried back into play with Williams running onto it and finishing the rebound to complete her brace and give Steele her third assist of the year.Â
Less than 60 seconds later, Sutton placed a perfect ball through the right side to Jackson who finished to the far post to seal all three points for the Lady Eagles and put her into sole possession of fourth in goals scored, passing Cassie Wilcox.Â
Defensively, Faulkner allowed just two shots on goal with six total efforts as Waters earned a clean sheet. On the other side, Faulkner shot 28 times, putting 14 on target with a 16-0 corners advantage. Â
The win served as the program's 150th victory.Â
Faulkner welcomes Thomas to town Saturday afternoon to continue SSAC play.Â
