PALM HARBOR, Fla. - Faulkner impressed, led by
Leo Testas winning as an individual, in one of the most loaded fields on a PGA Tour course Monday and Tuesday in The Invite at Innisbrook hosted by Dalton State, placing sixth in a 20-team field. The Eagles finished sixth with a 33-over-par 885, beating six ranked teams: No. 3 Dalton State, No. 12 Wayland Baptist, No. 14 Science and Arts, No. 17 Grand View, No. 21 William Carey and No. 23 Southeastern.
In a tournament featuring 11 ranked NAIA teams, Testas proved to be the best, carding a pair of eagles on Monday including a hole-in-one on the 232 yard eighth hole in the first round. Testas also eagled the par-five 560-yard first hole in the second round as he scored a pair of four-under-par 67s Monday. He slept on the lead and closed out with a one-under-par 70 to finish with a nine-under-par 204. The French sophomore turned in 10 birdies as well with only five bogeys to claim a two-stroke victory over Keiser's Stanley Campbell and a six-shot gap over Reinhardt's Trey Schmidt as the only three to go under-par on the Copperhead Course that hosts the Valspar Championship every year. The most recent champion, Matt Fitzpatrick, shot 11-under in four rounds.
Adam Carreyn proved tough again with a 16th-place finish out of 102 golfers to play all-three rounds with an eight-over-par finish that had an even-par second round with five birdies. He thrived on the par-fives shooting 2-under on the longest holes.
Noah Costello placed tied for 64th in his college debut, turning in a two-over-par first round en route to a 15-over-par finish with three birdies on Monday.
Mac Moorer shot consistently to finish tied for 85th with a 21-over-par finish having his most success on the par-three 13th with two pars and a birdie.
Judson Graham rounded out the five for the Eagles placing tied for 95th with a six-over-par second round to finish 26-over-par, shooting birdies on hole one every time.
Faulkner finished one shot behind No. 16 Blue Mountain and four shots behind No. 5 Webber International. No. 1 Keiser ran away with an eight-shot victory over second place and fifth-ranked Reinhardt and 17 shots ahead of No. 9 Coastal Georgia.
Faulkner closes its fall schedule Oct. 26-27 at the Camellia City Invitational hosted by William Carey at RTJ Cambrian Ridge, the site of the SSAC Men's and Women's Golf Championships in April.
