MARIETTA, Ga. - After being ranked for the first time in program history Wednesday, Faulkner made a statement proving their place Friday afternoon with four first half goals to take a 4-2 win over (RV) St. Thomas at Lupo Family Field in a neutral site contest.
After a heat delayed start, the action followed suit as
Juan Rojas scored the first goal of the game off an assist from
Leo de Souza in the third minute. Rojas found the back of the net for the second straight game and de Souza picked up his first career assist.Â
Five minutes later,
Angel Ugwumba scored his 15th career goal to make it 2-0. The Ecuadorian has now scored in four of his last five and six of his last eight matches.Â
The Bobcats struck back right away to make it 2-1.Â
Konsti Witte scored his 19th career goal in the 25th minute, moving him alone into second place all-time. He has seven goal contributions in his last six matches.
Bernardo Juca scored his third goal of the season in the 34th minute to pick up his sixth goal contribution this season to make it 4-1.
St. Thomas found a potentially match changing goal just 50 seconds before the second half to send the teams to the break 4-2.Â
The Eagles defended exceptionally well and allowed just four shots with only one on target over the final 45 with the Bobcats trying to pull the improbable comeback.Â
The Eagles improved to 4-0 for the second time in program history (2019) and the only time starting 4-0 against NAIA only foes. Faulkner scored multiple goals in every game displaying a balanced attack with no player yet recording a brace.
Faulkner faces its toughest task to date in the midst of a run of six matches against opponents receiving votes or better Sunday afternoon when the Eagles take on No. 9 Keiser. Kickoff is set for noon.Â
