THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Less than a week after Faulkner dismantled Thomas 10-0 in the semifinals of silver bracket play at the Gulf Coast Invitational, the Lady Eagles prepared for a rematch with the Nighthawks here this afternoon. The visitors road a pair of home runs to a 4-0 victory in the opener, but a run by the home team in the first inning of Game 2 was enough to secure the 1-0 win.

Heather Smith hit a three-run shot to center in the top of the first inning and Tori Hollis hit a solo shot in the top of the fourth to give the Lady Eagles their second shutout of Thomas this season in Game 1.

Missy Duke (5-1) earned her fifth consecutive win and third shutout of the year. Duke struck out five batters in seven innings to tally the one-hit win.

Smith finished the game 1-for-1and Hollis was 1-for-3.

Jessi Palmer was 2-for-3 and Erin Byrd and Haley Munroe were each 1-for-3 with a run.

The defensive fronts flipped in Game 2, however, with the Nighthawks claiming the one-hitter and earning the shutout.

Alexa Fair, the pitcher the Lady Eagles had little trouble with the week prior, was in peak performance this time around.

Munroe singled in the fourth, but the Faulkner bats were silent for the remainder of the outing.

Thomas' run in the first inning proved sufficient to gain the win.

Mattie Dotson allowed only five hits over six innings and had four strikeouts in the loss. The run was unearned.

Faulkner moved to 5-7 on the year and will travel to Mobile on Tuesday to open Southern States Athletic Conference play with the Lady Rams. The doubleheader is set for 4 p.m.
