MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Corey Black allowed two hits in six innings of work and Matt Creel and Craig Massey both homered as eighth-ranked Faulkner blasted Loyola 10-0 here Friday in the opener of a Southern State Athletic Conference three-game series at Harrison Field.
The Eagles (29-9 overall, 16-3 SSAC) pounded out 12 hits and scored in every inning but the third, with Massey's homer coming in the first and Creel's in the fifth as the game ended after the top of the seventh due to the run rule.
"It is good to see our team clicking on all cylinders. We drew walks, we hit balls in the gap, and drove the ball the other way. Corey had all his pitches going and commaded the zone. Everything looked good tonight.
Creel finished with three hits, while Massey, Zak Colby, Brook Boudreaux and Brennan Olive added two apiece for Faulkner.
Black struck out 10 and walked only two in improving to 6-1 on the season. With the loss Loyola dropped to 1-18 in the SSAC and 12-23 overall.
Faulkner and Loyola play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
