MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner managed just two hits but edged Loyola 3-2 here Saturday in the opener of a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader, then exploded for 15 en route to 13-0 blowout of the Wolfpack in the nightcap as the Eagles moved into a tie atop the league standings.

Eighth-ranked Faulkner's sweep, coupled with top-ranked Lee's doubleheader loss at Southern Wesleyan, leaves both teams at 18-3 in the SSAC standings. The Eagles are 31-9 overall, and have won all seven of its three-game conference series.

In Game 1, Faulkner jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first without recording a hit. Brook Boudreaux walked, moved to second on a groundout, stole third and scored on another groundout to put the Eagles ahead. In the third inning, Boudreaux and John Gunnels opened with base hits, then back-to-back walks and a fielder's choice resulted in two more runs and a 3-0 advantage.

The Wolfpack strung together three hits and a walk in the fourth, scoring twice to trim the margin to a single run. Faulkner starter and winner Will Dismukes allowed only two hits the rest of the way, striking out 11 on his way to a complete-game five hitter.

The second game carried no resemblance to the first, as the Eagles scored two runs in the first, added three more in the second and put Loyola away with a seven-run fourth. Tucker Willard and Daniel Cayton both homered, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs in the blowout. Boudreaux, Craig Massey and Matt Darr also added two hits apiece in support of Matt Creel, who allowed just one hit in five innings of work.

"We played extremely well this weekend," Faulkner head coach Patrick McCarthy said. "Now, we have to keep it going.  If our team continues to try in every way to get  better we will go a long way. It takes more dedication than ever to be successful late in the year."

Faulkner travels to Livingston Monday afternoon to face West Alabama.
