Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. - After trailing early in the opener, Faulkner rallied behind the arm and bat of Missy Duke to knock out No. 19 Auburn Montgomery 8-5 in a Southern States Athletic Conference division battle here at Wynn Field. The Warhawks took advantage of a Faulkner error in the sixth inning of the nightcap however, and clipped the Lady Eagles 3-2.
AUM looked unstoppable after taking 4-1 lead in the first inning of Game 1 and Jyssica Pepper's solo blast in the second just compounded the issue. The Warhawk scoring efforts came to a halt there however, as Faulkner gained momentum.
The Lady Eagles ignited with six runs in the bottom of the third, four of which came on a Duke grand slam. Faulkner capped its scoring effort with a single run in the sixth inning to secure the upset.
Faulkner continued to dominate into Game 2 when it posted a pair of runs in the first inning.
AUM wouldn't be kept silent long however, and tied the game in its subsequent at-bat.
After three scoreless innings, the Warhawks caught a break on an error in left field which put a runner on base with two outs on the board.
Haley Johnson cracked a single up the middle and Danielle Kirkpatrick followed with an RBI single to right to give AUM the lead and eventual win.
Duke (10-4) claimed the win in the opener. The senior scattered nine hits over seven innings and allowed two earned runs, while striking out five at the plate.
Cassie Daniels (7-6) took the loss giving up eight hits and five earned runs in three innings from the circle. She had six strikeouts.
Courtney Baker closed the event for AUM and allowed only three hits and a single earned run.
Duke finished the game 1-for-4 with four RBIs and a run.
Keri Hyde was 4-for-4 with three runs and an RBI for Faulkner and Haley Munroe was 2-for-3 and scored.
Pepper and Katie Spain were each 2-for-4 for AUM and Pepper added pair of runs and an RBI. Brandi Richards was 2-for-3 and scored a run.
Mattie Dotson (1-10) suffered the loss for Faulkner in Game 2. The freshman gave up seven hits over as many innings and allowed two earned runs while putting away four at the plate.
Brandi Richards (6-7) was lights out in the for AUM in the nightcap. She allowed only one earned run on two hits and tallied 11 strikeouts in the win. Richards was also 1-for-3 at the plate and scored twice.
Duke went 1-for-3 and had two RBIs in Game 2 for the Lady Eagles.
Kirkpatrick was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Warhawks and Johnson finished 2-for-3 and scored a run.
Faulkner moved to 11-14 overall and 6-7 in the league. The Lady Eagles will travel to Mobile to take on Spring Hill in an SSAC doubleheader on Thursday. The event is scheduled for 2 p.m.
