MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Faulkner softball team took on crosstown and Southern States Athletic Conference rival Auburn Montgomery this afternoon looking for a move up in the league standings. No. 18 AUM struck early in the opener to secure the 4-2 win however, before rallying in the nightcap to claim the 5-1 victory and secure the series sweep.

Missy Duke, Faulkner's starting pitcher who tallied the team's lone win against the Warhawks earlier this season, left the game after facing just four batters. The culprit was a lingering illness the senior was unable to shake. 

Duke allowed three runs on three hits before turning things over to freshman Mattie Dotson.

Dotson carried the defense through all six innings and gave up only three hits and a single earned run.

Duke (10-7) suffered the loss for Faulkner.

AUM's Brandi Richards (8-9)  logged the no-hit victory and struck out eight hitters in the process.

The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of Game 2 and controlled the tempo until the fifth inning when Laci Driggers caught fire for the Warhawks. 

Driggers ripped a two-RBI double to right center to slingshot the home team into the lead before adding a two-RBI single the following inning to seal Faulkner's fate.

Driggers finished the game 2-for-2 with four RBIs.

Cassie Daniels (10-6) scattered four hits over seven innings and struck out seven in the win for AUM. She allowed one earned run.

Dotson (2-12) gave up five hits and three earned runs in six innings of work.

Faulkner dropped to 12-19 overall and 7-12 in the league. The Lady Eagles will host Spring Hill in a crucial SSAC series Friday at Wynn Field. The doubleheader is set for 3 p.m.
