JACKSON, Miss. - Faulkner head softball coach Hal Wynn earned his 600th career victory here this afternoon in the Southern States Athletic Conference series split with division foe Belhaven. The Lady Eagles emerged the winners 6-5 in a 10-inning Game 1 battle before falling to the Blazers 6-1 in the nightcap.

The two teams exchanged runs through five innings in the opener before both defenses put the game on lock. Faulkner broke the scoring silence in the top of the 10th with pair of runs, while Belhaven's lone score that same inning kept victory out of reach.

Haley Munroe was Faulkner's offensive weapon of choice going 2-for-4 with a two-run homer.

Keri Hyde was 1-for-5 and scored three times.

Missy Duke (9-4) picked up her fourth consecutive league win after scattering seven hits over 10 innings and putting away four batters at the plate. The senior allowed two earned runs.

Revenge-minded Belhaven scored three runs in its first at-bat and hung three more on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure the win in the second event.

Babin Bayleigh (8-5) kept the Faulkner bats quiet, while anchoring the defense for the home team. The junior allowed only five hits and gave up no earned runs in the win.

Faulkner's lone run came on a Munroe single that scored Rachel Reiswig in the fifth inning.

Munroe finished the game 2-for-3 and Reiswig was 1-for-3.

Mattie Dotson (1-9) endured the loss after allowing 11 hits in six innings of work. The freshman gave up three earned runs and had three strikeouts. 

"I've said it before and I'll say it again, ‘I haven't won any games, the players have,'" Wynn commented when asked about the achievement. "Now, I've lost games, but the wins belong to the girls. They work hard and good things happen because of their efforts. It's a wonderful moment, but certainly not one I can take all the credit for. I've been very fortunate to have worked with some outstanding athletes over the years and the wins have always been theirs."

Wynn, the father of Faulkner softball, is in his 21st season. Since starting the program in 1992 he has posted a record of 600-496-1. His teams have posted winning records in 13 of the last 16 years and have accumulated at least 25 wins in all but three seasons.

Wynn has worked for the university for 28 years and currently serves as the assistant athletic director for compliance in addition to his role on the field.

Faulkner (10-13/5-6 SSAC) will host cross-town and division rival Auburn Montgomery on Tuesday at Wynn Field. The doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m.
