MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A Faulkner goal with just one second remaining in regulation sent tonight's Southern States Athletic Conference battle with No. 8 William Carey into extended play here John Mark Stallings Field. The Crusaders ultimately thwarted an Eagle breakaway effort in the first overtime, however, and connected with a game-winning strike in the 104th minute to clinch the 4-3 victory in double overtime.

Faulkner bookended regulation with a pair of phenomenal striking efforts.

The home team took the opening touch to the wing and Brighton Masuka sent a deep ball to Kofi Forkuoh who shook the netting just 15 seconds into play.

The Crusaders answered in the 19th minute courtesy of Luis Trude, but Grayson Wood fired a bullet past the keeper on a Gabi Queiroz feed just three minutes later to reclaim the lead for Faulkner.

Jean Emanuel-Ahouman managed to tie the event for the visitors just four minutes before the half when he tucked a shot behind the keeper on a pass from Thilo Koerperich.

William Carey claimed its first lead of the outing in the 65th minute when Helge Pietschmann hit a shot that took an awkward bounce over the diving keeper.

Faulkner, though slightly deflated, continued to apply the pressure and when everyone thought the event was in the books, that effort paid off. 

Queiroz collected the ball deep in Crusader territory with just 15 seconds on the clock and took it down the far sideline where he found Alec Daley already in motion. Daley then sent a beautiful ball to the middle where Didier Atse crushed a shot by the the leaping keeper at the 89:59 mark.

Forkuoh had the fans on their feet in the first overtime when he broke past the back line with a shot that was saved off the foot of the sliding keeper.

It was Pietschmann that would score the decisive goal, however. With just over six minutes remaining the double overtime he fired a low shot under an approaching Diego de Silva to secure the win for William Carey.

"You guys have what it takes to win, and win big," head coach Kyle Beard told his team after the game. "They came in here thinking this would be an easy win before the conference tournament and it took absolutely everything they had to get the win. I wish the result was different, but you guys showed, once again, that you can compete in this conference and with some of the best teams in the country. I'm really proud of you guys. It was an incredible effort."

Pritchard Ndiara (3-12-1) had seven saves and allowed three goals in the loss.

Net time was shared with de Silva who had four saves and allowed one goal.

Faulkner closed the season at 3-13-1 overall and 2-9 in the league.
