Faulkner's McCarthy reaches 300-win club

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner head baseball coach Patrick McCarthy won his 300th career collegiate baseball game Saturday afternoon against Shawnee State, and Sunday afternoon after winning a pair against Cumberlands his staff and team awarded him Saturday's game ball in honor of the accomplishment.

McCarthy, in his fourth season at Faulkner, has posted a remarkable 144-50 record, having taken the Eagles to three straight national tournaments and its first-ever NAIA World Series berth in 2011. Prior to coming to Faulkner he was the head coach at Freed-Hardeman, where he amassed a 158-108 record.

"The success I've had is a direct result of all the great people I've been around in my career," McCarthy said. "Because of their hard work we have been able to do this together. I'd like to thank all of my former players and coaches for what they've all meant to me."

McCarthy's current Eagles team is 9-1 and ranked No. 9 in the latest NAIA poll.
