Cumberland ends Faulkner win streak at nine with 4-1 victory

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Cumberland took the lead for good on a wild pitch then added some insurance late to edge ninth-ranked Faulkner 4-1 here Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference baseball game at Harrison Field.

The loss ended Faulkner's nine-game winning streak, dropping the Eagles to 12-2 on the season. Faulkner managed only six hits off the Bulldogs' Jake Collier, who walked three and struck out five en route to his first win of the season. The Eagles scored a run in the second inning, but were blanked the rest of the way.

The game was tied at 1 when Cumberland's Richie Seaton scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning for a 2-1 lead. Craig Monson's two-run single in the ninth widened the margin for the Bulldogs, who improved to 5-3-1.

Faulkner's Dauris Holguin was the only Eagle with multiple hits, collecting a single and a double. He also scored Faulkner's lone run.

Tyler Carter took the loss for Faulkner, falling to 0-2. He allowed five hits in five innings and two runs, only one of which was earned. Preston Szuch was impressive in middle relief, tossing two scoreless innings and giving up only one hit.
