Eagles sweep doubleheader from Tornadoes

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner pounded out 23 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Talladega here Tuesday afternoon, capturing 12-7 and 7-3 victories at Harrison Field.

David Bishop led the ninth-ranked Eagles' onslaught in Game 1, collecting a pair of doubles and a home run in a perfect 4-for-4 outing at the plate, which included five RBI. Faulkner (5-1) used a six-run uprising in the fifth inning to take control. Ethan Williams added a double and a homer for Faulkner, while Zak Colby, Dauris Holguin and Michael Cruz each had two hits, while Brook Boudreax scored twice and drove in two runs.

Dustin Spruiell tossed two-plus innings of three hit relief and allowed only one run in earning the win. Justin Hallmark grabbed the save.

In Game 2, the Eagles scored three times in the first and never looked back, with David Roberts pitching three innings for the victory. Holguin was the only Eagle to have multiple hits in the game with two, witch Jacob Oster driving in a pair of runs with a triple. Williams scored a run and his double drove in another. Faulkner's seven runs were scored by seven different players.

"We showed an offensive surge tonight," Faulkner head coach Patrick McCarthy said. "I like where we are offensively, especially this early in the season."

Faulkner hosts Shawnee State Saturday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader at Harrison Field. First pitch is set for 1.
