MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner's 11-game win streak came to an end in Game 1 against No. 18 Central Methodist this afternoon at Wynn Field. A wild throw to first in the top of the fifth ushered in the game's only run, dealing a 1-0 loss to the Lady Eagles. Faulkner traded runs with the Eagles in the nightcap, but a key sixth inning secured the 5-3 victory for the home team.

The Lady Eagles out-hit their opponent five to four in the opener, but Central Methodist made good on the scoreboard. A routine fielder's choice play went awry in the top of the fifth inning when Tori Hollis overthrew Sophie Slemp at first base. The runner rounding third took advantage of the error, scoring the game's lone run.

Faulkner had an opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh when it moved a runner to third with two outs, but a topped hit to first base made things easy for the visitors.

Natalie Walker (5-1) suffered her first loss of the season. The right-hander scattered just four hits over seven innings and allowed one earned run. She had five strikeouts in the game.

Central Methodist took an early lead in the top of the second inning on Game 2 with a well-struck ball up the gut. 

Abbie Pierce's solo homer to deep center that same inning however, quickly brought the game back to a stalemate. 

Central Methodist hit a screamer out of the park two innings later to retake the lead, but a sacrifice fly courtesy of Avery Mott in Faulkner's subsequent at-bat moved the game back into a tie.

Faulkner took its first lead of the afternoon when Hollis went yard in the bottom of the fifth inning. 

The guests proved they still had fuel in the tank however, and answered with a solo blast to nearly the same spot, tying the game 3-3.

Hannah Qualls put a runner in scoring position for Faulkner with her leadoff double in the top of the sixth. Mott then drew a walk.

The home team took advantage of an Eagle error when the catcher attempted to gun down a runner returning to first. The wild throw allowed Chelsea Jones to score the go-ahead run from third.

Faulkner capitalized again just moments later when the catcher overthrew second base trying to clip the Lady Eagles in a steal situation.

Central Methodist refused to go quietly however, and managed to load the bases with just one out on the board in its final offensive threat.

The Faulkner defense tightened up and a force out at home followed by a strikeout put the game in the books.

Mattie Dotson held the circle for five and a third innings giving up seven hits and three earned runs, while putting away seven at the plate.

Chelsey Dunnaway (6-0) earned the win allowing one hit in the remainder of the event. She also logged a pair of strikeouts.

Tia Rogers was 2-for-3 in game one.

Pierce went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI in the nightcap. Hollis was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Qualls was 2-for-3.

Faulkner moved to 13-2 on the season and will take on Martin Methodist in doubleheader action at 1 p.m. in Pulaski, Tenn., on Saturday.
