MONTGOMERY, Ala. - William Carey tallied a run in the sixth inning of the opener to clip Faulkner 1-0 before moving on to a 5-2 victory in the nightcap to earn the Southern States Athletic Conference sweep here at Wynn Field.

Katy White, the Crusaders' leadoff hitter in the top of the sixth inning, pooched a shot over second base and later scored on Hannah Cook-Kelley double to log the game's only run.

Stellar pitching on both sides kept things under control at the plate. William Carey was held to five hits while Faulkner produced just three.

Mattie Dotson (6-11) allowed the lone earned run in the loss and had a pair of strikeouts.

Things turned sour for the Lady Eagles early in Game 2. With two outs on the board in the top of the first inning, Jasmine Shelby hit a bullet to the pitcher's mound striking Natalie Walker in her throwing arm. 

The Crusaders then capitalized on an infield error to score the first run of the game.

Walker tried to shake off a throbbing bicep, but reluctantly left the game after walking two batters.

Faulkner trailed 3-0 heading into its first at-bat, but Erin Byrd sparked the offense with a double to left-centerfield and later scored on a Tori Hollis single up the middle.

The fourth inning was virtually a carbon copy of the first for the home team, this time with Tia Rogers cracking a double and later scoring on a Rachel Reiswig single.

William Carey bookended the event with two more runs in the top of the seventh however, and the Lady Eagles failed to answer.

Walker (7-9) suffered the loss allowing two hits and no earned runs in two-thirds of an inning of work.

Dotson held the circle after Walker's injury and gave up six hits and one earned run over five and one-third innings.

Hollis faced the final to batters in the bottom of the seventh.

Rogers was 2-for-2 and scored in the second event and Byrd finished 2-for-3 with a run.

Hollis was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Infielder Brooke Chittam and outfielders Byrd and Reiswig were honored by their coaches and teammates in a special Senior Day ceremony prior to play this afternoon.

Faulkner dropped to 19-21-1 overall and 5-16-1 in the league. The Eagles will host No. 10 Belhaven in SSAC doubleheader action at Wynn Field on Monday at 4 p.m.
