No. 2 Faulkner pounds Point in final non-conference matchup

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner knocked off Point 10-6 here Tuesday night in its final tune up before its crucial Southern States Athletic Conference three-game series with Auburn Montgomery, which begins Thursday night at the AUM Baseball Complex.

The Eagles (41-10), who moved up to No. 2 in the last NAIA Top 25 poll - marking the highest ranking in the program's history, can win their second straight SSAC regular season championship with a successful series against the Warhawks. Faulkner is a half-game ahead of No. 4 Lee, with only three league games left for both teams. The Faulkner-AUM series begins with a single game Thursday night at 6, with a Friday doubleheader set for a noon start.

In the win over Point, Dauris Holguin drove in three runs and Sergio Sanchez knocked in two more as the Eagles fought back from a 6-5 sixth inning deficit. Holguin, Brook Boudreaux and Zak Colby had two hits apiece to pace the Faulkner attack. Preston Szuch, the third of five Eagles pitchers, earned the victory.

Faulkner travels to Columbus, Ga., next week for the SSAC Tournament. The Eagles will then host an Opening Round site of the 2013 NAIA Baseball National Championships May 9-13 at Harrison Field. The winner of the five-team tourney earns a trip to the AVISTA-NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, later in May.
