Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Natalie Walker's 14-strikeout performance coupled with even-keeled hitting by Faulkner ushered in a 7-0 shutout in Game 1 before a two-run sixth-inning effort by the Lady Eagles in the nightcap secured the 6-5 victory and sweep of Martin Methodist here at Wynn Field.
Walker (1-1) was a surgeon in the opener striking out every batter with the exception of Nikki Hodges at least once. The senior kept the RedHawks off balance throughout the contest and allowed only five his in the complete-game win.
The Lady Eagles' offense took care of things on the opposite side of the ball with seven different batters accounting for as many hits and runs.
Faulkner jumped onto the board in the bottom of the first when Keri Hyde scored on a wild throw. Kendra Orozco's double in the fifth put her in scoring position and Morgan Martin's subsequent two-run blast to left field gave the home team the 3-0 advantage.
Tori Hollis' leadoff double followed later by a Hannah Qualls RBI double and Avery Mott RBI single set the stage for the Lady Eagle's four-run sixth inning.
Faulkner boosted its hit total two eight in Game 2 but none was bigger than Amanda Seale's momentum-shifting two-run bomb to dead center on an 0-2 count while trailing 4-1 of the bottom of the fifth. Sophie Slemp's RBI double later that same inning moved the event into a tie.
The visitors clawed their way back into a narrow lead in the top of the sixth, but a Hollis single and infield throwing error that same inning allowed the home team to score a pair of runs and ultimately lock in the win.
Seales was 1-for-3 in Game 2 with a pair of RBIs and runs. Qualls went 2-for-2 and scored twice as well.
Chelsey Dunnaway took control of the circle for the first five innings of the contest and gave up five hits and two earned runs while putting away two batters at the plate.
Mattie Dotson (3-0) got the win allowing just two hits and a single earned run over the final two innings.
Faulkner improved to 6-2 overall and will next enter the Gulf Coast Invitational in Orange Beach on Friday, March 7.
