Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Central Methodist backed Aubry Utley's one-hit effort from the circle with eight hits and a pair of runs to blank Faulkner 2-0 in the opener of today's doubleheader and followed with a 5-4 victory in the nightcap to secure the series sweep here at Wynn Field.
Faulkner walked in the first run for the visiting Eagles in the top of the fourth inning before back to back doubles in the seventh ushered in the second.
Utley and a stingy Central Methodist defense kept Faulkner off the bases with the exception of Avery Mott's lone it in the fifth inning.
Sophie Slemp wasted little time in sparking the Lady Eagles' offense in Game 2 however, when she powered an RBI double to left-center to put the home team on the board.
Kendra Orozco followed with an RBI triple the following inning and a dropped popup just moments later allowed Faulkner's third run to score.
Lauren Geringer single-handedly leveled the playing field in the top of the third however, when she crushed a three-run bomb to center field.
Hannah Qualls shifted the momentum back into Faulkner's favor that same inning when she drove in the go-ahead run with a single to left-center.
The visitors then took advantage of a pair of Lady Eagle errors in the top of the fifth to tie the game and secured the game-winning run on a walk in the sixth.
Chelsey Dunnaway (2-4) allowed eight hits and struck out three batters in the Game 1 loss. Both runs were earned.
Natalie Walker (2-3) suffered the loss in the night cap. The senior gave up nine hits and four earned runs while putting away five at the plate.
Slemp and Orozco were each 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run in Game 2 and Tia Rogers finished the event 2-for-4.
Faulkner dropped to 8-7 and will open Southern States Athletic Conference when it hosts Bethel Friday at noon.
