MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner's three-run seventh inning punctuated by Kendra Orozco's walk-off single in Game 1 lifted the home team to the 6-5 victory, but a Blue Mountain scoring spree culminated in an 8-1 blowout in the nightcap of today's Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader here at Wynn Field.

The "cardiac kids," as assistant coach Gary Gregory affectionately refers to the Lady Eagles as of late, produced their second consecutive buzzer-beater in Game 1 against the Toppers.

Blue Mountain struck first with a Whitney Hardwick two-run homer to left field in the top of the third inning, but Orozco knocked in Faulkner's go-ahead run after the Toppers had walked in a pair that same inning.

Things turned south again in the fifth when Nicki Whitten punched another shot over the left field wall, this time with three runs in tow.

Abbie Pierce drove the event into a tie in the bottom of the seventh, however, with a two-RBI double off the wall and scored the game-winning run just moments later on Orozco's walk-off single to shallow center.

The Lady Eagle rally helped usher in Mattie Dotson's (5-1) fifth win of the season. The junior tossed the final six outs and allowed just two hits in the process.

Natalie Walker started Game 1 for Faulkner and gave up nine hits and five earned runs while striking out seven in five innings of work.

Blue Mountain struck rapidly in Game 2 with a run in its first trip to the plate, but Faulkner answered on a Pierce sac fly in the second.

Things stayed relatively quiet until the top of the fourth when the Toppers took advantage of a bases-loaded situation to gain the 5-1 lead.

Blue Mountain widened the margin with a Haley Knepp three-RBI double down the third base line in the seventh.

Chelsey Dunnaway (3-5) took the loss allowing eight hits and four earned runs while striking out three in 4 and 2/3 innings of work. 

Dotson took over for the remainder of the outing and allowed four hits and three earned runs.

Pierce had three RBIs and scored once on the day.

Orozco had two hits and tallied a pair of RBIs. Hannah Qualls also posted two hits while driving in a run and scoring.

Faulkner (10-9, 2-2 SSAC) will host No. 2 Spring Hill in SSAC play on Tuesday. The doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
