JACKSON, Miss. -  A two-run homer solidified No. 8 Belhaven's 3-0 victory in Game 1 of the Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader here Saturday, but an Abbie Pierce RBI single in the sixth inning of the nightcap secured the 1-0 win for Faulkner.

Belhaven scored first on a sacrifice fly in the third inning of the opener and added two more runs in the fourth courtesy of a Dominique Corona home run.

Keri Hyde, who was 3-for-4 on the day for the Lady Eagles, scored the lone run in the second event on Pierce's single to left field.

Chelsey Dunnaway (3-7) allowed five hits and two earned while striking out three batters in the loss

Mattie Dotson (7-1) continued her hot streak scattering seven hits over as many innings and putting away three at the plate in the win.

The split marks Faulkner's fourth straight in league play.

The Lady Eagles (12-11, 4-4 SSAC) will take on No. 13 William Carey in another SSAC showdown beginning Saturday at 2 p.m.
