HATTIESBURG, Miss. - No. 13 William Carey capitalized on numerous Faulkner shortcomings and the base running skills of Relanda McFarland to secure 4-0 and 1-0 victories here in today's Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader. 

The Crusaders utilized a three-hit third inning to secure their first run in the opener before Faulkner walked in another two innings later.

A passed ball followed immediately by a sacrifice fly to left field completed the home team's scoring assault in the sixth inning.

William Carey took advantage of McFarland's base-running efforts to tally the lone run in the nightcap. The Crusader center fielder sparked the offense in the first inning with a single up the middle before stealing second base on the ensuing pitch. Moments later McFarland took off for third and then scored on a wild throw in an attempt to make the out. 

Mattie Dotson (7-2) suffered that loss despite allowing just four hits and striking out six at the plate. 

Kendra Orozco accounted for half of Faulkner's four hits in Game 1, going 2-for-3 in the outing. Keri Hyde mirrored those same numbers in the second event.

Chelsey Dunnaway (3-8) took the Game 1 loss allowing four hits and two earned runs while walking five batters and striking out three in 4 and 2/3 innings of work.

Hayden Strickland took over for the final 1 and 1/3 and allowed a hit and a pair of earned runs.

Faulkner dropped to 12-13 overall and 4-6 in the league. The Lady Eagles next take on conference foe Southern Wesleyan in Central, S.C., on March 28. The doubleheader is set for 5 p.m.
