Pierce's walk-off homer lifts Faulkner to SSAC split with Mobile

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Mobile struck quickly in the opener to gain the 2-1 victory, but Faulkner's Abbie Pierce answered in the eighth inning of the nightcap with a walk-off homer to secure the 1-0 win and Southern States Athletic Conference split.

The Rams (18-16, 10-6 SSAC) scored both runs in a four-hit first-inning effort in the opener and managed to fend off the home team for the remainder of the outing.

The Lady Eagles found themselves in numerous scoring situations, but with only a single run, courtesy of an Avery Mott double, to show for it.

Faulkner stranded 10 base runners in the event.

Chelsey Dunnaway (3-11) gave up nine hits and two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings of work in the loss.

Natalie Walker, who's been battling a rib injury, held the circle for the final two outs.

Mott and Kendra Orozco were each 2-for-3 in the game.

Mattie Dotson (9-4) was brilliant for Faulkner in the nightcap and anchored the home team's defensive front scattering just four hits over eight innings, while striking out four batters and walking none in the shutout.

Meanwhile, the game was offensively uneventful until the bottom of the eighth inning when Pierce singlehandedly secured the win for the Lady Eagles.

Faulkner moved to 14-19 overall and 6-12 in the league. The Lady Eagles host No. 6 William Carey in SSAC action on Friday.  Game 1 of the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m.
