Bethel sweeps Faulkner in SSAC matchup

McKENZIE, TENN. - Bethel struck for five runs in three innings of play to earn the 5-2 victory over Faulkner here in Game 1 of today's Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader before bookending the Lady Eagles' lone run in the nightcap to complete the sweep with the 2-1 win.

 

The Wildcats (18-32, 17-21 SSAC) road four RBI singles and a fielder's choice to a 5-0 lead after just three innings of play in the opener.

 

Faulkner finally climbed on the board in the fourth inning courtesy of an Avery Mott RBI single and added to that total in the sixth when Sophie Slemp drove in the visitors' last run of the game.

 

The Lady Eagles scored their final run of the afternoon in the second inning of Game 2 when Makenzie Anthony wedged an RBI single in between two Wildcat runs in the first and third innings.

 

Slemp went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run in Game 1 and Mott was 2-for-3 with an RBI. 

 

Anthony was 2-for-3 and drove in a run in the second event.

 

Chelsey Dunnaway (3-15) suffered the Game 1 loss after giving up five hits and four earned runs in 2 2/3 innings of work.

 

Mattie Dotson took over in the circle at the tail end of the third inning and allowed just three hits for the remainder of the outing.

 

Walker (2-6) gave up nine hits and a pair of earned runs while striking out seven in six innings of work in the Game 2 loss.

 

Faulkner (15-26, 7-19 SSAC) will visit Blue Mountain for the final doubleheader of the season tomorrow afternoon. The first game is set for noon.
