Faulkner closes season with sweep of Blue Mountain

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - Faulkner cruised by Blue Mountain 4-0 in Game 1 before edging the home team again 3-2 in the nightcap here on Saturday to close the season with its only Southern States Athletic Conference sweep of the year.

The Lady Eagles scored their first run of the day in the top of the sixth inning when Keri Hyde sprinted home on a wild pitch. Morgan Martin added to the scoring total with a single swing of the bat just moments later with a three-run shot to left-center field.

Sophie Slemp, who was 2-for-3 in the second event, knocked in Faulkner's first run in the top of the first inning with a hard double down the left field fine.

Tia Rogers hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth and Amanda Seales followed with an RBI single to shallow left to cap Faulkner's scoring efforts.

The Toppers (22-23, 10-18 SSAC) prevented a second shutout, however, with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough to overcome the sweep.

Chelsey Dunnaway tossed four innings and allowed just two hits and struck out four batters in Game 1.

Mattie Dotson (10-5) held the circle for the final three innings and gave up a pair of hits to complete the shutout and earn the win.

Natalie Walker (3-6) secured the victory in the nightcap and allowed just three hits and two earned runs while striking out two in the complete game effort.

Hyde went 2-for-3 and Martin was 1-for-2 in the opener. Seales and Chelsea Jones were both 1-for-2 in Game 2.

Faulkner closed the season at 17-26 overall and 9-19 in the league.
