Sos, Arche, Llera lead Faulkner to 5-4 win and sweep of Tigers

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning by Cody Sos gave Faulkner the lead, and a strong relief appearance by Victor Arche allowed the fifth-ranked Eagles to beat No. 5 Georgetown 5-4 here Saturday and sweep their three-game weekend series at Harrison Field.

Sos's big hit came with one out, scoring Edgar Figueroa and Llera to put the Eagles on top for good and make a winner out of Arche, who pitched five innings of scoreless relief. The junior left-hander allowed only one hit and struck out eight Tigers.

Llera had three hits, including a three-run homer in the bottom of the first that gave Faulkner a 3-2 lead. Back-to-back hit batters in the fourth forced in the tying run for the Tigers, who took a 4-3 lead on Tanner Uncle's RBI single.

With the sweep Faulkner moves to 6-0, while Georgetown drops to 0-3.

"Obviously it was a good weekend for us," Faulkner head coach Patrick McCarthy said. "We still have a lot of question marks, but playing quality teams like Georgetown allows us to get some quick answers. I think Victor was great, and again we got the big hits when we had to have them."

Llera also scored twice, while Chris Madera added three hits and a run scored for the Eagles. Figueroa earned three walks and scored twice as Faulkner won its second straight one-run game. Eagle starting pitcher Jack Charleston allowed four runs, only two of which were earned, in four innings of work. He allowed five hits and struck out four.

Georgetown's Leonard DeLaRosa took the loss. Unkle had two hits for the Tigers.

Faulkner hosts Talladega Tuesday afternoon in a doubleheader at Harrison Field.  First pitch for the opener is set for 1.
