HONOLULU, Hi. - BYU-Hawaii's Destyni Valencia tossed a one-hitter while her offense secured a solo run to earn the 1-0 victory in Game 1 here this afternoon before the Seasiders fended off a Faulkner surge midstream in the second bout to secure the sweep with the 7-3 decision.

Mattie Dotson (6-2) scattered four hits over seven innings and tallied a pair of strikeouts in the Game 1 loss. The lone run was earned.

Hannahlee Harris finally broke the Lady Eagle hitting slump with a base knock in the fifth inning of the opener. It was the first hit for Faulkner in 13 innings.

The bats finally found some life in Game 2, however. The visitors connected on seven hits and ultimately generated three runs. The first was walked in, the second was scored on a sac fly from Jessica Butterworth and the last on a wild pitch.

Despite finding offensive momentum against starting pitcher Brittany Vasques, things went cold again when Valencia regained control of the circle. The junior transfer from Alabama State allowed no hits or runs in the final there and two-thirds innings. She gave up just a single hit, no runs and had nine strikeouts in just under 11 innings of work on the day.

Chelsea Jones was 2-for-3 and scored and Harris was 2-for-4 with a run in the second game.

Taylor Griffith (0-1) gave up eight hits and four earned runs in three and a third innings of work. The freshman had two strikeouts. 

Hayden Strickland pitched the remainder of the outing and allowed just two hits and an earned run.

Faulkner dropped to 11-7 on the year and will return home Monday morning. There will be little recovery time, however, as the team will next host Mount Mercy on Tuesday. The doubleheader is slated for 3 p.m.
