MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Sophie Slemp anchored a four-run fifth inning with a three-run homer to help catapult Faulkner to a 5-2 victory over Southern States Athletic Conference opponent Blue Mountain (Miss.) in Game 1 here at Wynn Field. The home team then extended its win streak to five games after clipping the Toppers 1-0 in the second event.

Slemp was nothing short of stellar at the plate for Faulkner in the opener. The junior put the team on the board with an RBI single in the first inning before driving in three more with her home run in the fifth. Hannah Qualls knocked in the final run of the ball game on a single that same inning.

Jessica Butterworth drove in the lone run of the second game with a double to left-center field in the fifth inning.

The Lady Eagles out-hit the Toppers 19 to six in the series with 13 coming in Game 1 alone.

Mattie Dotson improved to 8-3 on the year with the opening win. The senior allowed just four hits and a single earned run while striking out five batters.

Hayden Strickland (5-3) picked up her fourth consecutive win from the circle in Game 2. The sophomore scattered five hits over seven innings and logged three strikeouts in the shutout.

Slemp was 2-for-4 and knocked in four of the team's runs and scored herself in Game 1 of the series. Kendra Orozco went 2-for-2 and scored and Holli Brooks was 2-for-3 with a run in that contest.

Butterworth was 4-for-7 on the day and had the game-winning RBI in the second contest. Abbie Pierce was 3-for-5 in the series and scored half of Faulkner's runs on the afternoon.

The team moved to 16-8 overall and 6-2 in the league. Faulkner will next travel to No. 23 Mobile for and SSAC series on April 3.
