Box Score WALESKA, Ga. - Nine Reinhardt pitchers combined on a two hitter and the hosts knocked out Faulkner starter Kurt Lipscomb early en route to a 7-1 victory here Tuesday over the top-ranked Eagles at Ken White Field.
With its No. 1 ranking announced just hours before the game, Faulkner struggled from the outset. Lipscomb gave up a run in the bottom of the first and six more in the second, lasting only four innings. Five of the runs in the decisive second were unearned, but Lipscomb (6-2) did surrender eight hits in his short stint. Faulkner relievers Vinny Lujan, Brian Bass, Patrick McGrady and Tyler Campbell allowed combined to allow only one hit the rest of the way, but the Faulkner bats never came alive as the Eagles fell to 32-7.
Reinhardt (18-17) pitchers Max Smith, Hunter Osborn, Luke Cathcart, Brett Snell, Dylan Childers, Luke Maxwell, Colton Prather, Will Thomas and Amael Gonzalez each pitched an inning, with Gonzalez losing the shutout in the top of the ninth when Faulkner's Chris Madera hit his sixth home run of the season. Junior Santos got the Eagles' other hit, a single in the seventh.
The Eagles host Southern States Athletic Conference foe Bethel this weekend in a three-game series at Harrison Field. Friday's game begins at 6 p.m.
