Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner erased a 4-1 deficit with two runs in the seventh inning and three more in the eighth and escaped with a 6-4 victory here Friday afternoon over Brewton-Parker in the first of a three-game Southern States Athletic Conference baseball series at Harrison Field.
With the victory, the fifth-ranked Eagles moved to 20-3 overall and 6-1 in the SSAC, while the Barons dropped to 8-9 overall and 4-5 in the league.
After second-inning doubles by Dennis Morton and Mario Amaral staked the Eagles to a 1-0 lead, the Barons erupted for four runs in the fourth. Brewton-Parker benefited from two Faulkner errors in the frame, with Brent McFarland's two-run double and Brandon Bynam's RBI single the big blows. The Barons held the 4-1 lead until the seventh, when Chris Madera doubled in a pair of runs to cut the margin to 4-3.
In the decisive eighth, Randy Joung and Morton singled, and Edgar Figueroa followed with a perfect bunt that tied the game. Nick Cain then doubled in the go-ahead run, followed by a sacrifice fly from Amaral that provided some insurance.
Christian Torres got the victory in relief of starter Phillip Anderson, with Jack Charleston pitching a perfect ninth to earn the save. Michael Venturelli took the loss for Brewton-Parker. The Eagles outhit the Barons 11 to six, with Madera, Morton and Figueroa collecting two apiece. Clay Fenwick and McFarland each had two hits for Brewton-Parker.
The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday, with the first pitch of Game 1 scheduled for 1 p.m.
