MONTGOMERY, Ala. - After falling to Brenau (27-15/9-11 SSAC) in a Southern States Athletic Conference series sweep on Wednesday, Faulkner was looking to even the score with a pair of wins against the Golden Tigers here at Wynn Field this afternoon. Faulkner did just that utilizing a walk-off single in the eighth inning of Game 1 to earn the 3-2 victory before creeping by the visitors 4-2 in the night cap.

Holli Brooks knocked in Faulkner's first run of the day with a single over the third baseman in the first inning of Game 1 and Avery Mott extended the lead to 2-0 when she scored on a wild pitch in the fourth.

Madison Lacy finally put Brenau on the board with an RBI double to left-center field in the seventh inning, but a Faulkner error in the outfield allowed the tying run to score on the same play.

Hannah Qualls put an end to the Golden Tiger surge, however, with a walk-off single to hard right field in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Brenau scored on another Faulkner error in the top of the first inning of Game 2, but the Lady Eagles answered quickly with a pair of runs sparked by a Golden Tiger blunder that same inning.

A dropped fly ball in left field with a pair of outs on the board ushered new life into the Faulkner lineup and Kendra Orozco was the first to take advantage with an RBI double to left-center. Orozco then scored on a Kelsey Hartley base hit giving the home team the advantage.

A bases-loaded single for the Golden Tigers moved the event into a tie in the third inning, but the stalemate was short-lived.

Emily Byrd drove in a run with a single in the fifth inning and Mott capped Faulkner's scoring effort with the same in the sixth.

Mattie Dotson (10-6) allowed just three hits and an earned run in eight innings of work in the Game 1 win. The senior also tallied four strikeouts.

Hayden Strickland (7-4) scattered seven hits over as many innings and gave up just a single earned run in the second victory.

Brooks was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the opener and Qualls went 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI.

Orozco was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and an RBI in the second game while Hartley, Mott and Byrd each had a hit and drove in a run.

The sweep was extra sweet for Dotson, Orozco, Mott, Abbie Pierce, Chelsea Jones and student assistant Jacqui Wynn who were all honored prior to play in a special senior appreciation day ceremony.

Faulkner improved to 20-14 overall and 10-8 in the league. The Lady Eagles will next face SSAC foe Coastal Georgia in a home series on Tuesday. Game 1 is set for 2 p.m.
