Box Score 2 MOBILE, Ala. - Eighteenth-ranked Mobile clipped Faulkner 3-1 here in Game 1 of this afternoon's Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader before exploding with a six-run sixth inning in the second bout to secure the sweep with a 10-2 victory in six innings of play.
A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning and a two-RBI triple to right field courtesy of Kaitlyn Wood in the sixth gave the Rams a 3-0 lead deep in Game 1. Holli Brooks, who went 2-for-3 in the event, delivered a triple of her own in Faulkner's final at bat and later scored on a wild pitch. The Lady Eagles' offense was put to rest with a runner on base, however, before additional runs could be tallied.
Twelve Mobile hits coupled with seven Faulkner errors created insurmountable obstacles for the visitors in the nightcap.
Kelsey Hartley's solo bomb in the top of the second inning followed by a Makenzie Anthony score on a Ram error in the third helped propel the event into a 2-2 tie by the fourth inning.
Mobile then took a two-run lead with scores on a Faulkner error and an RBI single through subsequent innings before things fell apart completely.
The Rams took advantage of three Lady Eagle errors in the bottom of the sixth inning while logging six runs on four hits. The final crack of the outing was an inside the park home run from Taylor Clinkenbeard that generated three runs.
Mattie Dotson (8-4) scattered seven hits over six innings and had two strikeouts in the opening loss. All three runs were earned.
Hayden Strickland (5-4) allowed 10 hits and three earned runs over five and a third innings in the Game 2 loss.
Emma Cornell tallied one out in the sixth and gave up two hits and an earned run.
Faulkner dropped to 16-10 overall and 6-4 in the league. The Lady Eagles will return to SSAC action on Saturday when they travel to No. 23 Belhaven. The doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
