Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (4-3) outscored short-handed Carver College (1-8) in all but the first quarter en route to the 75-61 victory this evening here at Tine Davis Gymnasium.
The Cougars made a valiant effort with just six players, but despite matching the Lady Eagles with 17 points in the opening quarter, there was little the visitors could do to keep pace down the stretch.
Carver was led by 6-foot-3-inch forward Celia Estelle who had 20 points and 11 rebounds. Alesha Johnson follow closely with 18 points.
Faith LeGate and Olivia Adamson were two problems for which the Cougars had no solution. Both players produced season-high numbers and combined for 52 percent of Faulkner's total offense.
LeGate had 23 points on the night, just two shy of tying her career-best, and added seven rebounds.
Adamson was lights-out from deep ball territory knocking down 5-of-6 from behind the arc on her way to 16 points; also just two shy of her career-best. She also secured her first double-double of the year by adding 10 boards.
Savana Flack had eight points and a pair of rebounds.
Head coach Reed Sutton's comments after the win were on par with his thoughts following the Fisk contest on Saturday.
"We're still not getting a great flow offensively, but we did do some good things," he said. "I thought our defense was better, but we are fouling too much, and overall, the defense still isn't quite where we'd like."
Despite not having Brandy Alley, Emma Herren or Tykeah Rogers in the mix tonight, Sutton said he likes the effort he's getting off the bench and feels that these early games will pay off big as the team enters conference play beginning late next week.
Faulkner resumes action Saturday afternoon when it hosts Pensacola Christian at 2 p.m.
