LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Hot-hitting Georgia Gwinnett improved to 6-2 on the year after securing a pair of victories here this afternoon. The 21st-ranked Grizzlies broke free of a 6-6 stalemate heading into their final at-bat in Game 1 to earn the 9-6 decision before connecting on five unanswered runs through the final four innings of play in the nightcap to secure the 6-2 win and the sweep.

The Grizzlies controlled the the tempo of both outings and improved defensively from the first contest to the second. The home team produced 12 and 11 hits, respectively, over the pair of games, while holding the visitors to seven and three in order.Â

Jessica Butterworth was 3-for-7 with an RBI on the day while Sophie Slemp drove in four runs on a pair of hits.

Katie Goodson was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the first game and Hannahlee Harris booked a hit, RBI and scored in Game 2.

Hayden Strickland (0-1) allowed 10 hits and five earned runs while tallying three strikeouts over five innings of work in the Game 1 loss.Â

Freshman Caitlin Perry (0-1) scattered seven hits and four earned runs over 4 1/3innings and struck out a pair of batters in the Game 2 loss.Â

Emma Cornell anchored the Lady Eagle defense for the last three outs of Game 1 and final 1 2/3 innings of the second event. The sophomore gave up six hits and four earned runs over the span.

Faulkner (0-2) will next take the field in its own Invitational hosted in conjunction with Auburn Montgomery next weekend. The Lady Eagles will host Montreat College at noon on Friday at Wynn Field followed by Reinhardt at 4 p.m.
