Palmeiro helps No. 3 Faulkner roll past Reinhardt 16-1

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Deivy Palmeiro had four hits and knocked in four runs as third-ranked Faulkner blasted Reinhardt 16-1 here Tuesday evening at Harrison Field.

Darrius Jennings and Alexis Cruz each added four hits for the Eagles (8-1), who pounded out 19 hits off of six Reinhardt pitchers.

The Eagles got things going in the bottom of the first, scoring six times on six hits off of Reinhardt starter River Brannon. Dario Polanco's two-run homer led the charge, with Mario Amaral singling in a pair of runs and Palmeiro knocking in another.

After Reinhardt (7-2) scored an unearned run in the third courtesy of a pair of Eagle errors, Faulkner added to the lead in it half of the fourth. David Palenzuela's sacrifice fly with the bases loaded pushed the lead to 7-1, and Palmeiro's two-out single that bounded off of Reinhardt second baseman Eli Dickens plated two more runs for a 9-1 advantage. Cruz blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to extend the advantage to 10-1.

In the seventh, three singles loaded the bases and an error on a sharp grounder by Palenzuela allowed two more Faulkner runs to score. T.J. Condon's double and Palmiero's single each drove in runs later in the inning as the lead ballooned to 14-1. In the eighth, Palenzuela singled in a run and another scored on Matt Martin's infield groundout to close out the scoring.

Phillip Anderson (1-1) pitched five innings, allowing no earned runs and only one hit while striking out seven to earn the victory. Faulkner relievers Kurt Lipscomb, Miguel Castellanos, Brandon Suttles and Austin Moreland each tossed an inning of scoreless relief.

Faulkner plays four games at Auburn Montgomery this weekend, starting with a battle with Talladega Friday afternoon at 2.
