MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Freshman pitcher Caitlin Perry was brilliant from the circle anchoring the Faulkner defense with a two-hit, 10-strikeout effort while the Lady Eagles exploded for eight runs on 10 hits en route to an 8-0 shutout against Montreat College (0-5) in just five innings of work here on Day 1 of the Faulkner/AUM Invitational at Wynn Field.

Perry (1-1) put away 10-of-17 at the plate and walked none in the lopsided win. Her 10-strikeout performance marks the most by a Faulkner freshman since Emily Jimmerson's showdown against Southern Wesleyan in 2008. Jimmerson logged five double-digit strikeout performances that year, but all were in seven-inning efforts.Â

The Lady Eagles scored all eight of their runs on just two trips to the plate.Â

Makenzie Anthony was a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and scored. Jessica Butterworth and Hannah Qualls were each 2-for-3 and scored and Butterworth drove in a run.

Sophie Slemp knocked in a pair of runs on a hit while Emily Byrd also secured an RBI on a hit.

Faulkner (1-2) will look to continue the hot streak this evening when it takes on Reinhardt (Ga.) at 4 p.m.
