MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner snapped its three-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over 19th-ranked Campbellsville here Friday afternoon in the first of a three-game series at Harrison Field.
The first inning got off to a rough start for the third-ranked Eagles (10-4) when Campbellsville (6-2) took a 1-0 lead off of three walks and a hit.
The Eagles came right back to tie the game. Dario Polanco's RBI double scored Mario Amaral, who also had doubled.
After recording three quick defensive innings, the Eagles scored twice in the fifth to grab the lead. With one out in, Darrius Jennings got on base and Alexis Cruz followed with an RBI double to put Faulkner on top. Cruz came home on a sacrifice fly from T.J. Condon that increased the lead to 3-1.
Cruz hit a solo home run in his next at bat that gave the Eagles a 4-1 lead.
Six of the nine Eagle hits were extra base hits, with a triple by Condon, and doubles by Amaral, Cruz, Polanco, and Nick Cain. Cruz, Condon, and Cain had two hits apiece.
Mark Vasquez (4-0) got the win, giving up one run and six hits with seven strike outs.
Brandon Suttles came into pitch in the eighth inning, giving up one hit. Austin Moreland (0-1) got the save, allowing two hits and striking out one.
The Eagles will continue the Campbellsville series Saturday with a doubleheader starting
at 1 pm at Harrison Field
